Be proactive
“It’s better to look ahead and prepare than to look back and regret.” ~Jackie Joyner Kersee, Olympic medalist
I’m bracing for what’s going to be the most stressful and polarizing presidential election we’ve witnessed in our lifetime. Though I don’t feel I’ve done enough to support my candidate, I’ve tried to do something, to the best of my ability and resources. I’ve put a sign on my lawn, donated money, and invited an equally motivated group of neighbors to write postcards and letters at my dining room table. I’ve read and shared informative articles from reputable, respected sources with friends around the country, who’ve shared theirs with me, in turn.
Because this election season has been so divisive, some folks tell me they don’t want to “risk” putting signs on their lawns or openly campaigning where they live.
But I believe it’s important to be able to look at yourself in a mirror the day after an election — whether your candidates win or lose — and know that you did your best to support them. Which is why today’s quote resonated when I first read it. This week, a longtime friend sent a text showing a photo of our candidate’s sign, which he’d recently placed on his front lawn. He’s never been inclined to post lawn signs, but made an exception this season. He made me proud.
There’s still time to register to vote — if you or anyone else you know hasn’t done so yet. Please encourage others to research all the issues. Get the facts, then vote. Make the effort. Stand up for what you believe, for our country. ~CL
