A little encouragement

“Be an encourager. The world has plenty of critics already.” ~Dave Willis

The hilarious mug in today’s photo is a birthday gift that I’ve been enjoying ever since I unwrapped it. I never thought of myself as a “badass,” but I break into a smile each time I fill it with morning coffee. It’s a small reminder of how good it feels to be encouraged, especially on gloomy days like this one.

Note to self: Find ways to encourage others who might need an extra boost too. After all, everybody’s muddling through the start of an unpredictable year. All of us carry a load of worries and problems along with our dreams and goals. It might help if we’d all be nicer to each other — more encouraging; less critical.

So, what is an encourager? Today’s quote got me thinking. For starters, encouragers don’t waste time casting shadows with complaints, blame, or criticism. They work on solutions and try to make peace. Encouragers catch others doing good things, then praise their efforts. Encouragers are creators, not destroyers. They remind us that positive energy inspires unity.

I haven’t been very encouraging lately, and I need to work on that. But if you are an encourager, then “keep that sh*t up” — just like my coffee mug says. Keep on being a bearer of hope, truth, beauty, and goodness. I guarantee, everyone will wonder what’s in your coffee mug. ~CL
