Books change lives,  Inspirational quotes,  Personal growth

The joys of reading

“The best moments in reading are when you come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things – which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.” ~Alan Bennett, The History Boys

I’m a lucky reader with an active book club in my own neighborhood. Once a month, I get to walk down the street or around the corner to a friend’s home to discuss a novel or memoir that I might have overlooked on my own. Best of all, it’s always a pleasure to be in the company of others who love reading and discussing ideas.

As today’s quote reminds us, certain books can provide comfort and validation. Some even feel like trusted friends long after we’ve read them. Books can inspire change and growth; they can rock our world. Why not explore the shelves of your local library or start a book club of your own? ~CL
